Update: Things Are Just Getting Started.
Hi everyone,
Thank you for being so patient with me over the last month as I try and figure out what is next for this publication. While I have always felt that this platform has had so much potential, I have never been more excited than when writing this! I needed some time to refine (not change) the messaging and content structure of this publication. I have also given the online site a facelift by changing my about page and adding a wordmark.
So here are a few things I want you to know going into the future as I continue with a more polished version of this newsletter.
Who is This Newsletter For?
If you ever want to suggest this newsletter to a friend it’s always a good idea to have a pitch of a sentence or two in mind, isn’t it?
Well this newsletter is for intellectually curious individuals, policymakers, business professionals, and those interested in understanding the complex interactions between economics and global affairs.
With a focus on journalism encompassing politics, economics, business, finance, and global affairs here I will delve into the ways in which these topics influence and shape one another. Through comprehensive analysis and thought-provoking commentary, I hope to provide my readers with a unique perspective on the intricate relationships between these domains.
While this description of the newsletter is not much different than what it was, it has given me a clearer idea of what I would like to do around here and the direction I want to take each essay/edition in the future.
How Will It Be Structured?
The Newsletter will follow a very similar structure to the previous few editions from here on out with a few small changes:
Meaningful Numbers: Here I will give you some numbers, stats or figures put into a pretty infographic or graph
Feature Essay: This is the bulk of the newsletter which will center around essays on global politics, economics, finance and business
Weekend Reads: Here is a collection of the most interesting stuff I have consumed from around the internet throughout the week, which I would like to share with you
So that means that I have mostly retired the Briefly Weekly Summary and the Quote of the Week. I have done this because while I want to pack as much value and information into each edition as I can. I do not want to crowd the newsletter with distractions and overkill.
The publishing day and time will also be moved. After doing some research and having a look at the numbers of my previous few editions I have made the decision to move to a Monday morning, 10am GMT or 5am EST. This is purely because by the end of the week email open rates have dropped and people are looking forward to the weekend, by releasing each edition on a Monday it gives everyone a chance to start off their week at the office or home, with a coffee, reading In Brief!
I also plan to do some interviews with people who are influential within business and politics to better understand how our world works. These will most likely come in the form of written interviews but in the long run I would like to launch it as a podcast with a written transcript available. For these I will not commit to a dedicated publishing schedule but rather publishing them whenever I get the chance to speak to someone interesting. For me quality is key here.
On that note, drop me a line if you have anyone (including yourself) you think I should interview by either replying to any edition of the newsletter or suggesting it in the comments. I can’t wait to hear some suggestions!
What’s Up With The Feel?
You may have noticed by now some of the lovely new dividers made for the newsletter, or the wordmark, or even the overall feel and color scheme of the online website. I have chosen to go with this aesthetic because it gives a level of uniqueness to the platform which I think so many other newsletters lack. This will also bleed into the graphics that you’ll see (i.e. the cover image of every edition) which will be curated for each edition from scratch.
To give you an idea here is some of the old cover art:

And here is an example of what to expect from the next few edition to come in the following weeks:
While it is a small change I think it will go a long way in giving this newsletter an authentic feel and create a more professional brand!

Where to From Here?
Well it’s simple, I’ll see you next Monday, and every Monday thereafter. I hope we can make something special of this platform.
See you then!
-Luke
